FIRSY AERIAL PARCEL POST SERVICE        Boston MA ~ New York NY

Aviator Harry M Jones had received authorization fron the Post Office Department to carry mail on an attempted flight from Boston MA to New York NY. On January 13, 1913 in a Burgiss-Wright biplane he left Franklin Park Field in Boston carrying a pouch of mail. His flight was plagued with bad weather and mechanical problems with landings in Providence RI, West Mystic CT, Niantic CT before arriving in New London CT over a month later on February 28th. He continued his flight south departing Yale Field New Haven CT on March 4th with additional mail but crashed on March 9th in Mamaroneck NY. Receiving some minor injury, Jones continued his trip to New York City by rail delivering the mail pouch to the NYC Postmaster on March 10th.

EXPERIMENTAL HYRDROPLANE MAIL FLIGHT        Corpus Christi TX ~ Port Aransas TX

Aviator Charles de Remer had received authorization fron the Post Office Department to carry mail on an experimental over-water flight from Corpus Christi TX to Port Aransas TX. The Commercail Club of Corpus Christi sponsored the flight. On March 29, 1913 on his second take-off attempt de Remer was airborn. Unfortunately, after three miles of flight he experienced a propeller malfunction forcing an emergency water landing. The mail that he carried aloft was taken to the post office for processing.

Postmaster Thomas Fox established a postal sub-station at Agricultural Park Race Track Sacramento CA. Aviator Roy N Francis flew from the race track about one mile to Oak Park CA where he dropped the mail from the plane close to the Oak Park Post Office. The mail was then retrieved and taken to the post office.

Postmaster Tripp established a postal sub-station at the Driving Park Aviation Meet Santa Rosa CA. Aviator Thaddeus Kearns flew from the speedway about two miles to a point near the Post Office where he dropped the mail from the plane. The mail was then retrieved and taken to the post office.

Postmaster Pease established a postal sub-station at the Fair Grounds Rutland VT. Aviator George Schmitt with his friend as a passenger flew from the fair grounds to a point near the Rutland Post Office where he dropped the mail from the plane. The mail was then retrieved and taken to the post office. Later the same day on another flight Schmitt and his passenger died when their aircraft crashed.

Postmaster Chapman established a postal sub-station at the Aviation Meet McLeansboro IL. Aviator Roy N Francis flew from the meet about five miles to a point near the Post Office where he dropped the mail from the plane. The mail was then retrieved and taken to the post office. As an added attraction, James Irving made a parachute jump from Francis's plane landing among the meet onlookers.

The Postmaster of Carmi IL established a postal sub-station at the Fair Grounds Carmi IL. Aviator Anthony Jannus flew from the fair grounds meet about one mile to a point behind the Post Office where he dropped the mail from the plane. The mail was then retrieved and taken into the post office.

Patterson Aviators planned to fly from the exhibition fair grounds to a point near the Hicksville Post Office where it would be dropped from the plane. The mail would be retrieved and taken to the post office. Mail was prepared to be carried by aeroplane but was not flown.

The Postmaster of Helena MT established a postal sub-station at the State Fair Grounds Helena MT. Aviator Katherine Stinson took off from the fair grounds and while aloft circled the area dropping the mail pouch from the plane in full view of the fair onlookers. The dropped pouch was retrieved and taken to the post office.

Postmaster John Clinton approved the transport of mail by aeroplane from the Fair Grounds at Natrona Heights PA. Aviator Theodore Stockman planned to fly from the fair grounds about 25 miles to Schenley Park in Pittsburgh PA. On October 4, 1913 Stockman was unable to take off and his aircraft was finally dismantled and brought to Verona PA for repair. Mail scheduled to be carried on this flight was also brought to Verona where it was posted on October 17th.

Postmaster DB Logan of Woodstock VA established a postal sub-station at the Fair Grounds Woodstock VA. Aviator Frank J Terrill planned to fly from the Shenandoah County Fair about ten miles to Mount Jackson VA. Terrill flew some mail locally from the fair but did not make the flight to Mount Jackson VA. Mail that was to be carried on the flight was forwarded by train to Mount Jackson.
