Background: The Post Office Department designated any contract air mail route flown by an airline into/from a foreign country into/from the US as a "Foreign Air Mail" route. The Foreign Air Mail routes became known as FAM's.

FAM-98: FAM-98 was awarded to Southern Airways.
In June 1936 Frank Hulse and Ike Jones bought a controlling interest in Southern Airways of Georgia, a fixed-base operator and flight school. In 1941 Southern Airways of Georgia (aka Southern Airways) applied for Civil Aeronautics Board certification to become a local service air carrier in eight southeastern states but this was interupted by WW-II.
FAM-98 was awarded to Southern Airways and on December 4, 1974 it inaugurated jet flight service from Miami FL to Georgetown Cayman Islands.
