Airlines: Pierre-Georges Latecoere founded his company, "Societe Industrielle d'Aviation Latecoere" in 1917 on receiving a government order for warplanes. In 1918 an air route connecting France to Senegal, by way of Spain and Morocco was envisioned. With that concept in mind, in 1919 Latecoere created the airline company, "Lignes Aeriennes Latecoere" (LAT) which began serving routes between France and Senegal and eventually across the Atlantic from Dakar to Brazil. Latecoere also set up his own aircraft manufacturing company called "Forges et Ateliers de Construction Latecoere" to build the aircraft needed for LAT's mail routes. LAT was renamed "Compagnie Generale d'Enterprises Aeronautiques"(CGEA). Another French airline, "Compagnie des Grands Express Aeriens" (also called CGEA) was formed in 1919 and flew services between London-Croydon and Paris-Le Bourget in the early 1920s. In 1927 LAT was bought out by the South-American-based French businessman, Henri Bouilloux-Lafont and the whole enterprise renamed "Compagnie Generale Aeropostale" (CGA). It was still known by the public as "The Latecoere Line" and later was just called "Aeropostale." Aeropostale was merged with Air France (AF) on August 30, 1933.

Compagnie Generale Transsaharienne: CGT was formed in 1927 by the French automaker, Renault and provided flight service across the Sahara Desert from Algeria to Gao Mali.

Lignes Aeriennes Nord Africaines: LANA was formed in 1934 initially flying Farman 190 aircraft. This North-African Air Line was merged into Air Afrique in 1937.

Regie Air Afrique: RAA was formed in 1934 and was merged into Air Afrique in 1937.

Societe des Reseaux Aeriens Transafricains: SRAT was formed in 1922 and ceased its activity on June 1, 1923.
